THE MUSIC MINISTRY
There are a number of music groups preparing music for Mass and other liturgical celebrations through the year in our combined Church Parish.
We welcome new pianists and organists to our team of musicians and offer as much support and time as needed to learn the role. There is full support and training available for pianists who wish to make a transition to the organ. We also welcome other various instruments.
The choir at St Joseph's Church often lead the congregational singing and also sing special choral music in keeping with the Liturgies.
At Our Lady Help of Christians, Bell Block and St Patrick's we invite all who enjoy singing to form a strong group to prepare and lead for special occasions.
Cantors and song leaders are rostered and prepare weekly for all New Plymouth Masses. Weekly preparation is home-based using online musescore, which is very accessible and easily understood. We can help you with this. Practice times will be available twice a month, with a microphone and accompanist, for all Church cantors and song leaders. Training for new leaders is always available. Please not that this support is offered at all four Mass centres in our Parish. Please don't hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to having you on our team!
Children, we invite you to be part of this ministry! At times through the year there will be opportunities to sing in a children's choir, play instruments, cantor and song lead.
Please contact Juliette Parker (Music Coordinator) for further information:
The music tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as a combination of sacred music and words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn Liturgy (SC112)
Couples for Christ / Youth for Christ
Couples for Christ (CFC) is a Catholic movement intended for the renewal and strengthening of Christian family life.
CFC couples have committed themselves to the Lord and to one another so that they may grow in maturity as men and women of God and fulfil their primary vocation of raising families grounded in Christian values, in the service and love of God.
WHY SUCH A MINISTRY?
CFC wants to rise in defense of the family, which is God’s work. CFC wants to bring God’s strength and light to those who are struggling to be truly Christian families in the modern world.
WHO CAN BECOME MEMBERS OF CFC?
Any validly married Catholic couple can become members of CFC. Although a Catholic movement/organization, CFC remains open to having non-Catholic Christians as members. CFC draws its membership from all sectors of society, young and old, rich and poor, etc. CFC transcends all cultural, economic, educational, social and other distinctions.
CFC Membership numbers in Taranaki (New Plymouth, Stratford & Opunake)
Family Ministries of Couples For Christ:
CFC-KFC (Kids For Christ)- Each KFC activity aims to make the kids realize that Jesus is the most exciting person in our lives. That He is God and He loves us so much. Thru the activities they also learn the 7 core traits as a KFC member: Prayerful, Loving, Obedient, Respectful, Diligent, Generous, and Honest.
CFC-YFC (Youths For Christ)- aims to evangelize youth from ages thirteen (13) to twenty-one (21). The ministry molds a generation of young, passionate, convicted and Christ-centered young people, reaching out to them in every community, campus and school. YFC develops strategies in evangelization and establishes programs relevant to the changing times, meant to deepen the youth’s relationship with the bigger church.
CFC-SFC (Singles For Christ)- the next generation of Couples for Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit to journey and witness with single men and women in their discovery and pursuit of vocations and the fullness of the mission towards building a Christ-centered society.
CFC-HOLD (Handmaids of the Lord)- cater for mature women, regardless of status, or situation, from ages forty-one (41) and above. The ministry has a three-fold mission: personal transformation, evangelization to bring her family and others especially women to a renewed life in the Lord, and wholehearted service to bring glad tidings to the poor. It provides a strong teaching track, special teachings for women in different states of life, and a leadership program to equip leaders to be more effective and better servants. The mission express promotes the missionary spirit among leaders to realize its vision.
CFC-SOLD (Servants of the Lord)- specifically targets mature men from ages forty-one (41) and above. SOLD provides an environment wherein they will be empowered to manage their lives accordingly and find spiritual sustenance. St Vincent de Paul
We have two conferences in New Plymouth, St Josephs and Fitzroy.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a world-wide lay Catholic organisation. In our Taranaki Area we aspire to live the Gospel message of Jesus Christ by meeting Christ in the people we serve with love, respect, justice and joy.
We are inspired by the work of Blessed Frederic Ozanam and St Vincent de Paul.
We wish to live out the words of our Servant Song -
“Brother, Sister let me serve you,
Let me be as Christ to you”

Friendship Group - a social group that meet on the second Sunday of each month for a lunch out from Feb to Dec each year. New members most welcome. Contact the Parish office or watch the newsletter for details of the next outing.
DATA PROJECTOR OPERATORS
Our ministry is assisting with Mass (and other liturgies when requested) by operating the data projector which shows the words to prayers and hymns. Often the congregation relies on what is shown, to participate. You aren't required to prepare the slides, these are all prepared in advance - you just need to show them on the screen. Guidance will be provided as to how to set up the equipment before Mass.
Involvement is limited purely to the duration of the Mass, plus 15 minutes before hand to set up the equipment. There are no outside meetings. Each church/mass centre has their own set of volunteers (and all mass centres are actively seeking more helpers).
For St Joseph's church, email email@example.com or contact the parish office. If interested in helping at the other churches or Mass centres, contact the Parish Office 757 3682
MINISTRIES IN THE MASS
Being community needs each and every one to participate at times in the Mass. As church family, we need to help each other out.
There are many ministries you can be involved in during (and out of) the Mass, and your involvement is really encouraged and most certainly appreciated.
Each Church/Mass Centre in the Parish relies on its people. We always need Mass Co-Ordinators - someone to tick the boxes and make sure everything is ready for the celebration of the Mass, (and to make sure those who are ministering that day, have arrived); we need sacristans, musicians, cantors, greeters/welcomers, people to help arrange the flowers, readers, eucharistic ministers to name but a few! You're always given training so if you think you may like to be more involved, give the office a call, and you will be contacted by someone who can talk you through just what is involved. We'd love to hear from you. Parish Office 757-3682
