From adult singers and The Mustard Seeds to The Seedlings and The Little Angels — there is a place for every voice.
We welcome new musicians of every age. Children, young people and adults can sing, play and grow as cantors — with training available along the way.
Adults
Adults within our parish who can sing and are keen to be part of a team and help lead the congregational singing at Mass are welcome. Regular rehearsals are always enjoyable, with singers encouraged to further their music skills.
New adult cantors are also welcome, and training is provided. At Christmas and Easter, we like to gather singers together to form a bigger choir to support and celebrate these larger Masses, with rehearsals held in the weeks leading up to these Masses.
Ages 14–18
The Mustard Seeds
The Mustard Seeds is our youth band for ages 14–18, who rehearse regularly, bringing contemporary church music to Mass. The band also sings waiata and Taizé, traditional psalms and parish hymns, and even a little Latin at times.
The band runs worship and adoration nights, and supports Confirmation camp and Confirmation Mass, Holy Thursday, Midnight Mass, feast days, school Masses, and concerts. Singers with the band also have an opportunity to be trained as cantors.
The Seedlings
The Seedlings is a choir for children aged 8–13, who rehearse weekly and regularly sing at Junior Youth Masses, Christmas and Easter Masses, First Holy Communion Masses, parish concerts, nursing homes, and busk for charity at Christmas time.
Children learn about sacred Mass music in more detail, the Church’s seasons, feast days, sacraments, and how our music fits into all this — with some going on to be trained as cantors as well.
The Little Angels
This group is aimed at preschoolers. We meet every Monday morning during the school term at Our Lady Help of Christians, where we share a hot drink, something to eat, a play with the toys, plenty of conversation and a music session.
In the warmer months we sometimes spill out into the sandpit area at the school next door, where play and conversation can continue. If a no-pressure, relaxing start to the week sounds like your whānau, then come and join us for playtime and music on Mondays.
